Hurricane Fern Care

Light
Bird’s nest ferns prefer medium to low light. Higher light will cause the leaves to crinkle, and too much light will cause the fronds to yellow and die.

Water
Ideally the soil would be consistently moist but not wet. A bird’s nest fern can tolerate drying out occasionally where other ferns might crisp up and die.

Humidity
Most ferns require high humidity, but the bird’s nest fern is an exception, making it a great fern for an owner who may forget about it occasionally. Still, avoid putting it in a drafty spot.

Pests & Problems
The center (“Crown”) of a bird’s nest fern is susceptible to rot, so never water directly onto it. Instead, water around the base of the fern into the soil. The fronds can be relatively fragile so place the fern somewhere it won’t get bumped into too often.

Pet friendly?
Yessiree, hurricane ferns are non toxic and safe for pets and people.
